Background | KChIP1 is an important member of the potassium channel interacting protein family. It binds to and influences the voltage gated potassium (Kv) channel. Like all other members in the family, KChIP1 has calcium binding domains (EF-hand-like) that sense calcium concentrations to regulate Kv channel. KChIP1 frequently forms complex with the rapid inactivating A-type Kv channels. It may play a role in modulating somatodendritic excitability, and the repolarization of cardiac myocytes following action potential. It is also reported that KChIP1 is associated with the GABAergic synapses in hippocampus. |
